Periodontics is one of the nine dental disciplines recognized by the American Dental Association.The specialty involves the study of the supporting structure of teeth and the diseases that affect them (like gums and bone). The periodontist is a specialized surgeon treating all forms of periodontal disease, oral pathology and all phases of dental implant treatment and surgery.
